Certification/Identity Management

The NES hosts the worlds 2nd largest eScience Certification Authority for use in the UK, known as the UK E-Science CA. The NES runs this UK E-Science CA on behalf of the UKNGI, to support UK research.

The UK E-Science CA has issued over 25,000 certificates to enable users to identify themselves and use the resources offered by GridPP and NES.

The NES also issues SARoNGS certificates which utilise users’ home institution identity providers to generate credentials for accessing the NES, without the need of applying for a UK eScience Certificate. The purpose of this service is to provide a simple mechanism to obtain the security tokens required to access resources in the UK.
